The American Kennel Club exists to promote pure breed dogs. If your dog can be registered, that simply means that his/her parents have been registered and so forth. All of the AKC activities are open to pure breed dogs only.
If a dog is of unknown parentage but seems to be of a pure breed, the owner may apply for an Indefinite Listing Privilege
. This will allow the dog to participate in obedience trials, agility, tracking, rally, etc.
However the dog must be neutered and so is unable/ineligible to further breed registered puppies and also cannot be entered in confirmation shows.
Still, you and your dog can have lots of fun and earn titles and awards.
Does this make sense?
Steven says:
"I get it! That's a cool way of doing it - they allow the field for titles and such to be broadened, but still maintain the blood lines on known animals.
"Have fun and go win a lot :)"
