Your dog's nails grow at about the same speed as yours. If a dog's nails are too long, the dog's posture is compromised. If your dog's nails click on the floor, they are too long.

I find that the direction of rotation is important. I bring the grinding wheel up from below the nail and orient the wheel so that the direction of rotation is toward the tip of the nail.
